EMW | East Meets West Fine Wines & Edmond de Rothschild Heritage: A New Distribution Partnership in China
East Meets West Fine Wines (EMW) is delighted to announce being appointed the exclusive importer in Mainland China for the Edmond de Rothschild Heritage (EDRH) Bordeaux properties.
The importer-distributor East Meets West Fine Wines and Edmond de Rothschild Heritage are proud to announce their exclusive partnership for the distribution in Mainland China of wines from the three Bordeaux châteaux owned by the Compagnie Vinicole Baron Edmond de Rothschild: Château Clarke, Château Malmaison and Château des Laurets. This new collaboration is to launch in September 2019.

“Our belief in East Meets West is based on their thorough understanding of the origins, logistics and storage of wine. EMW teams also demonstrate great professionalism through their quality events and high-end distribution network.” declared Boris Bréau, Managing Director for Compagnie Vinicole Baron Edmond de Rothschild.
China remains a strategic market for leading Bordeaux winemakers. This partnership with this importer, a benchmark in the distribution of fine wines, consolidates the positions of the Edmond de Rothschild Heritage wines in Mainland China.
About Edmond de Rothschild Heritage Bordeaux wine properties:
The history of the Rothschilds really started in the middle of the 18th century when Mayer Amschel Rothschild became well-known as a businessman. He sent his five sons to five European Cities to set up branches. Rothschild establishments became a legend… The passion to create and innovate has been handed down for more than 250 years within the Rothschild family. The prestige of this now legendary name shines in numerous fields: finance, philanthropy, wine making, science, fine arts, sailing… Each generation continues to enrich a family heritage that brings together modernity and elegance.

The passion for wine that runs in the French branch of the Rothschild family was born in 1868 when James de Rothschild purchased Château Lafite. Baron Edmond de Rothschild, current EDR group president Benjamin’s father, began a new chapter in the family adventure in 1973 by acquiring two Crus Bourgeois: Château Clarke and Château Malmaison.
In the Bordeaux Region, Baron Benjamin de Rothschild discovered a property with remarkable potential, acquiring the superb Château des Laurets in the Saint-Emilion region in 2003. Today, Benjamin and his wife Ariane, among other members of the family, are a major shareholder of the legendary First Growth estate, Chateau Lafite-Rothschild.

Château Clarke dates back to the 12th century, with monks originally tending the vines. After the purchase in 1973 by the Baron Edmond de Rothschild, the estate underwent full re-planting and expansion to 55 hectares. The wines produced today enjoy widespread prestige, high ratings, and enviable tasting notes, thanks, in part, to the extensive modernization overseen by Edmond de Rothschild’s son, Benjamin.

Also, on the left bank, and neighboring Château Clarke, Edmond de Rothschild purchased Château Malmaison. The vineyards were restored to its former glory, and the Baron named the wine after his spouse, the elegant Baroness Nadine de Rothschild, who created an enchanting garden there where roses and jacarandas have pride of place.

On the right bank, acquired more recently in 2003, the 19th century Château des Laurets overlooks 40 hectares of vines growing on a soil consisting of clay and limestone rock. Château des Laurets is a classic Merlot-Cabernet Franc blend from the St Emilion area. Already seen as a leader in its appellation, the Château is rapidly becoming a benchmark of quality for the AOC.
